Miss Koumori Cosplay interview

Who are you?
I’m Molly, or Miss Koumori Cosplay!

Miss Koumori as Alisa Bosconovitch from Tekken. Photo taken by an anonymous photographer.

How did you choose your cosplay name, Miss Koumori Cosplay?
Once upon a time, in elementary school, I had a Sonic fan character called “Sugar the Bat.” She was blue. “AoKoumori” meant “blue bat” in Japanese, so I adopted that as my cosplay handle in 2012. In 2017, I changed it to “Miss Koumori” since “AoKoumori” was difficult for people to pronounce/find and it was also grammatically incorrect in Japanese.

What was your first cosplay?
Amy Rose from the Sonic the Hedgehog series when I was 11.

How did you get into cosplay, and how long have you been doing it?
A friend invited me to a convention, Animazement 2008, and I have been into it ever since!

Favourite cosplay you’ve done so far?
Probably Devil Mercy from Overwatch! It’s my favorite so far.

Any advice for beginner cosplayers, or people wanting to get into cosplaying?
Do not compare yourself to others. There is so much to learn and practice.

You have quite a varied list of cosplays, going off your instagram. How do you go about choosing which cosplays to make and wear?
I make characters I love, period. The character has to be special to me or I will lose interest in the project. Most of my cosplays are from the fighting games I play!

Any group cosplays you’d want to do (eg Mystery Inc, Sailor Scouts, Avengers, X-Men, etc)?
Currently, a Gullwings group in any of the dresspheres from Final Fantasy X-2!

You a Bowsette cosplay recently, what drew you to making that cosplay?
It starting blowing up on Facebook and I thought it was ultra cute. Normally I don’t jump on trends, but I’d been playing Mario Kart recently, my friends all wanted to do it, and I really wanted to try to style to wig in conjunction with a speed build. It was so fun!

Will you wear it again in the future?
Maybe!

You took part in an Overwatch group cosplay, with you as PajaMei/Pajama Mei . How was it all organised (both the photoshoot and getting people to take part)?
So I attend a wondering gaming/art even here in Jacksonville, FL every year called @GAAM. The theme is kept a secret and usually revealed in the late spring, but some of the photographers for the event came up with “Trollverwatch” to trick people into thinking that Overwatch was the theme for April Fool’s Day. And thus, the Overwatch shoot was born!

What attracted you to choosing to cosplay Mei and choosing her pajama skin from the Rise and Shine animated short?
The short really touched my heart and made me hate Mei less lol. Plus, it was ultra comfy and I really needed to wear a comfy cosplay after all the uncomfortable armor I’d been wearing.

If you could live in any franchise, which one would it be and why?
Pokemon. It seems relatively fun and full of adorable creatures. Seems like it’d be a lot less dark than all the other franchises I enjoy…

Which cosplayer would you love to work with?
There are dozens, but right now I’d love to work with Kinpatsu Cosplay! She makes such beautiful work so fast.

If someone wanted to do a cosplay collaboration with you, what would be the best way for them to reach out?
Just message me on any social media. 🙂

Are there any cosplayers you think deserve more attention/coverage?
There are many, but I’d have to say @shanclaw on instagram. I’ve seen his armor up close and WOW.
